Labi Siffre's self-titled debut album, originally released in 1971, includes some brilliant compositions such as Make My Day and A Little More Line, as well as his cover of the BeeGees song Words. The Singer and The Song contains songs that precluded better known songs, such as Thank Your Lucky Star - one of a few songs written by Labi, focussing on famine in the third world, which eventually led to his writing Something Inside (So Strong).
Released in 1972, Crying, Laughing, Loving, Lying shows Siffre's vocal ability at its best and includes some of his best songs, including two hit singles It Must Be Love (a huge hit for Madness) and Crying Laughing Loving Lying. For the Children offers an eclectic collection of songs, with swirling electric numbers, such as Somesay and the bubbling psychedlia of Entertainment Value, next to more traditional sounding Labi on songs like If You Have Faith, Prayer and Give Love.
On Remember My Song, released in 1975, Labi moved towards a more commercial sound (for the time). There’s a hidden hit on this album - the sampled rhythm track from section two of I Got The... gave Eminem his first hit, My Name Is.
